Researches and Projects

Multifonctionnalité des territoires ruraux

This project is in partnership with Solidarité rurale du Québec. It aims to identify why landscape survey practical tools, methods and experiments constitute an essential gateway to rural area multifunctionality, with a special focus on their conditions for success.

Landscape, an essential component of rural area multifunctionality - Issues and recommendations for its consideration in Quebec

This mandate is part of the working group’s activities on the multifunctionality of rural areas. It focuses on the challenges of landscape survey as an essential component of the multifunctionality of rural Quebec.

This project will establish a record of knowledge on the increased role of landscape as a vector of development for rural territories. It will identify practical tools, methods and experiments that revealed the collective benefits of landscape surveys within the land-use planning of rural areas in Quebec and elsewhere. It will also orient the working group on the current conditions for success of projects for the protection, enhancement and development of rural landscapes in Quebec.

The activities of the working group on the multifunctionality of rural areas follows the National Policy on Rural Area 2007-2014in which the Quebec government reiterated "its commitment to provide the conditions for the development and enhancement of Quebec’s rural territory." To achieve the ambitious goal of a dynamic land use and sustainable living, the Government of Quebec and the various partners of the rural area – Solidarité rurale du Québec, Férédation québécoise des municipalités, Union des municipalités du Québec, and the Association of local development centers - pooled their efforts and expertise.
